Scene: Lorelai's Casual Date & Rory's Rehearsal Drama
Lorelai: Yéah. But I must sáy, I’m réally glád I wént toníght.
Rory: Yéah?
Lorelai: Yéah, I méan, it was fún to kínda gét dréssed úp and háve a fréshly láundered mán ópen the dóor for mé. And the bést párt about it wás, it was nó bíg déal. I méan, we láughed a líttle, we húgged goodníght, I’ll néver dáte him agáin, but I dó belíeve the burríto bít will líve ón. It was a tótally cásual dáte. I am nów officiálly a cásual dáter.
Rory: Thát’s gréat. And we cán célebrate by gétting you your ówn pláte of fríes.
Lorelai: Húh.
Rory: Héy Lúke, can we gét anóther róund?
Luke: Cóming ríght úp.
Lorelai: Só, téll me about the bíg rehéarsal.
Rory: We gót off to a sháky stárt, and Louíse ácts like she’s the príest in a Madónna vídeo. But by the énd, we were nót hálf bád.
Lorelai: Góod, góod.
Rory: Trístin rán into Déan.
Lorelai: Óhh! Bád, bád!
Rory: It’s okáy though because I púlled them apárt without ány blóodshed and I expláined it áll to Déan.
Lorelai: You expláined it áll to Déan?
Rory: I tóld him that Trístin wásn’t suppósed to be in our gróup and Páris móved the rehéarsal to Miss Pátty’s at the lást mínute and that’s whý he dídn’t knów about it.
Lorelai: Óh, that vérsion of “áll.”
Rory: But Déan’s fíne nów.
Lorelai: He’s fíne.
Rory: He’s fíne.

“freshly laundered man” → 깔끔하게 세탁된 남자?
- 여기서 “freshly laundered”는 옷이 깨끗하게 세탁되었다는 뜻을 비유적으로 사용한 표현!
- 즉, 단정하고 깔끔한 차림의 남자를 의미함.
- 예) He looked like a freshly laundered man. (그는 깔끔하게 차려입고 있었다.)
“burrito bit will live on” → 부리또 이야기는 계속될 거야
- “bit”는 짧은 농담이나 익숙한 요소를 의미할 수 있음.
- “live on”은 ‘계속 존재하다’라는 의미로, 즉 둘이 나눈 부리또 관련 농담이 오래 기억될 거라는 의미!

“casual dater” → 가볍게 연애하는 사람
- “casual”은 ‘가벼운, 부담 없는’의 의미, “dater”는 ‘데이트하는 사람’
- 즉, 이제부터 진지한 관계가 아니라 가벼운 데이트를 즐길 거라는 의미!
- 예) She’s not looking for anything serious, she’s a casual dater. (그녀는 진지한 관계를 원하지 않고 그냥 가볍게 만나는 스타일이야.)
“get another round” → 한 판 더 주문하다
- “round”는 한 차례의 주문을 의미함. 보통 술자리에서 쓰이지만, 여기서는 감자튀김 등의 추가 주문을 뜻함.
- 예) Let’s get another round of drinks. (한 잔씩 더 주문하자.)
“got off to a shaky start” → 불안하게 출발하다
- “get off to a start”는 ‘출발하다’, “shaky”는 ‘불안정한, 흔들리는’이라는 뜻.
- 즉, 리허설이 처음엔 매끄럽지 않았다는 의미!
- 예) The project got off to a shaky start but improved later. (그 프로젝트는 처음엔 불안하게 시작했지만 나중엔 좋아졌어.)
“acts like she’s the priest in a Madonna video” → 마돈나 뮤직비디오 속 신부처럼 행동하다
- 마돈나(Madonna)의 뮤직비디오에서 종종 등장하는 신부(사제) 캐릭터를 언급한 유머.
- 과장되고 드라마틱한 행동을 한다는 의미!
- 예) He’s acting like a priest in a Madonna video. (그는 마돈나 뮤비 속 신부처럼 행동하고 있어.)
“pulled them apart without any bloodshed” → 피 한 방울 없이 떼어놨어
- “pull apart”는 ‘떼어놓다’라는 뜻.
- “bloodshed”는 피 흘림, 즉 싸움이 없이 조용히 중재했다는 의미!
- 예) She pulled them apart before it turned into a real fight. (그녀는 싸움이 커지기 전에 그들을 떼어놓았다.)
“Oh, that version of ‘all'” → 아, 그런 식의 ‘모두’ 설명이구나
- 여기서 Lorelai는 Rory가 “I explained it all to Dean.”이라고 했을 때, 정말 모든 걸 솔직히 말했냐고 의심하는 뉘앙스!
- 즉, ‘네가 편집한 버전의 모든 것(All)이군’이라는 농담 섞인 반응.
- 예) So that’s your version of “everything”? (그게 네가 말하는 ‘모든 것’이야?)
“He’s fine.” (x3) → 괜찮아. (강조된 반복)
- Rory가 Dean이 괜찮다고 계속 반복하는데, Lorelai는 그게 정말 괜찮은 건지 의심하는 뉘앙스.
- 보통 반복해서 말하면 신빙성이 떨어지는 느낌을 주기도 함.
- 예) “I’m fine. I’m fine. I’m totally fine.” (나 괜찮아. 진짜 괜찮아. 완전 괜찮다고.)

“It was fun to kinda get dressed up and have a freshly laundered man open the door for me.”
- “fun to kinda get dressed up” → ‘좀 차려입고 나가는 게 재밌었어’

“We can celebrate by getting you your own plate of fries.”
- “celebrate by ~ing” → ‘~하면서 축하하다’
- 즉, 감자튀김 한 접시 더 시켜서 가벼운 연애 시작을 축하하자는 농담.
“We got off to a shaky start, but by the end, we were not half bad.”
- “not half bad” → ‘꽤 괜찮은, 나쁘지 않은’이라는 의미의 캐주얼한 표현!
- 즉, 처음엔 불안했지만 결국 꽤 괜찮았다는 뜻.
“Tristin ran into Dean.”
- “run into” → ‘우연히 마주치다’
- 즉, Tristin과 Dean이 예상치 못하게 마주친 상황.
“Ohh! Bad, bad!”
- “Good, good!” / “Bad, bad!” 같은 반복적인 감탄 → 감정을 강조하는 표현.
- 즉, ‘큰일이야!’라는 반응.
